Fix Is Coming! Ford Super Duty 7.3L V8 Spark Plug Wire Update
About a week ago we published a story about the engine misfire on our 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 7.3L gas V8 engine. The cause of the problem is a spark plug wiring harness – the wire that connect the ignition coil and the spark plug.
We were fortunate to fix the issue, but it took about two weeks to get it done because of the parts shortage. We also heard from several owners of 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks and new 2021 Ford chassis motorhomes with the same problem. The local Ford dealers also told us that this wiring harness is on backorder. Several dealerships did not have an ETA on when this part will be available. Thankfully this is a part that costs about $24. Strangely, this part will also render your truck or motorhome undrivable.
Now, we have an update directly from Ford. Here is an official statement from the company related to this issue:
"Quality is a top priority. We are aware of some issues with the spark plug wires used on the 7.3-liter engine. Our supplier has fixed the spark plug wires for the 7.3 liter used in the F-Series Super Duty. We are working hard to increase the supply of this part. We are working toward a solution for the spark plug wires in the F-53 motor home chassis. Customers experiencing issues should visit their local Ford dealer for assistance and possible repairs under warranty."
It's great to know that the faulty part has been fixed, and these parts are being distributed. We have heard back from our local Ford dealer on whether the updated parts has reached them yet in Colorado.
